Landed!
So I landed the United States safely. Here’s a digest for the long 1st day.
I had a pretty nice sushi at NRT as always. The restaurant is always busy but this time not so much, maybe because it’s off season for holidays.
I couldn’t upgrade to business class but luckily got a Premium Economy seat. It’s roomier and has a foot rest and power. However the flight didn’t provide the Connexion by Boeing access point, which is really strange. I watched the movie Nacho Libre, which was full of funny Mexicano English, read Murakami’s early short stories and slept for 3 hours.
The immigration was so crowded but the process itself was smooth. Took the BART train to the office.
Randy and Beau guided me to the Social Security Administration office in the Valencia Street, but the administrator said I need to come back in 10 business days because I just landed and there’s no info about me yet on their database. I’ll go check with them on the next week weekdays.
Had a good lunch at the front of the SSA office. BGM was Journey’s greatest hits.
Went back to the office and chatted with a couplf of friends from Japan who are working here what to do next. I figured out the thing to do next is to get the cellphone number. Because I have an unlocked Nokia phone, all I need is pay-as-you-go prepaid SIM card. I walked down to the Cingular shop on Market and 3rd to get one.
This time I got very sleepy. We had a mini foobar and had a good conversation about languages, or whatever.
Randy gave me a ride to the apartment and now I’m at home. Strangely this room has 2 bed rooms and 2 bath rooms. Very luxulary but something should be odd :) The comcast modem didn’t work at first and I made a reboot which fixed the problems, obviously.
I’m getting real sleepy now and I think I’m off to bed shortly.
I don’t have much things to do in the weekend other than fixing the jetlags and having lunch and dinners with Jesse (from Boston) and Junya in Mountain View.
