Projector vs. DLP projection
Today I was froogling for 56 inch rear projection TV and found a really good candidate, Toshiba 56HM195 56-inch 1080p HD DLP TV with HDMI. It’s available as around $1200 and does 1080p HD TV with 2 HDMI inputs.
I have 42inch plasma TV in my room in Tokyo, and since this room is a bit wider, 56 inch sounds good enough to me. I tested to see how 56 inch is big by using the measurement tool and holy shit it’s so big!
So that brings the question: should I buy projector or DLP rear projection? Here’re some comparisons:
Projector: Huge screen. Hard to wire and mount. Fan might be noisy. Projection TV: Beautiful vid quality. So big and take spaces. Heavy.
I don’t actually need to compare about the video quality that much, because the video source will be one of: Location Free TV (slingbox), DVD (region 1 or 2), xvid/divx videos from the net and Peer-to-peer football streaming.
Anyway, I’ve been trying to avoid thinking about rear projection since it looks like “so American” thing (as the size), but this one is so tempting. Here is my Froogle wishlist if you’re interested.
