Working out with the bass noise issues with the neighbor

October 14, 2007

Just as I commented on sekimura’s blog, I was knocked by my neighbor(s) for playing music loud at night. Today 7pm, the neighbor knocked me to explain what’s going on.

She is a really nice person and she herself has a gigantic speaker system and appreciates music. The problem with me playing music all night is the vibration that the bass (woofer speaker) generates and she doesn’t care how loud the music becomes since she doesn’t hear it at all. The only thing is the vibration that hits the wall whenever the woofer speaker emits the bass sound.

She doesn’t want to be a bad, complaining neighbor for me that I appreciate, and we need to work out what’s the problem here. I relocated the bass speaker to be a bit away from the wall and turned off the rear speaker for an experimental. It reduced the noise a bit, but the vibration was still there. The only thing I can do is to turn down the volume of sub woofer, and don’t play the techno-pop music at night, at least for now.

It seems that she has a lot of clients in world-wide including Japan (and she seems to love Japan … lots of wallpapers and whatnots that she got from the country), so she usually sleeps like 10pm to 2am on the weekday and a whole evening in the weekend.

Hmm.
