YAPC::Asia 2009
YAPC::Asia, the conference is over (though we still have the fun part, Hackathon).
First of all, big props and thanks to Daisuke Maki and JPA for taking over organizing it. It’s their first YAPC::Asia so there should be some places to improve next year and so on, but overall this was a great conference.
I really enjoyed the hallway, or rather a picnic track: on the grass we talked about some tech stuff like how to serve image files, or how to implement messaging queue system.
It’s really great being at the Japanese Perl community, especially Shibuya.pm. To me it feels like really being at home. And they talk about stuff like AnyEvent, Coro multi-tasking, Comet, Real-time Web, micro web frameworks etc. Even though we started the PSGI/Plack thing last week, a couple of people already added the material into their talks! All of this makes Perl look more relevant language in the tech industry, which is actually true, but a little different from what you see in other YAPCs.
There were many great talks and inspirations, but some of them I could highlight are gugod’s Learning from Ruby, nothinguch’s Try::Tiny, typester’s emacs hacks and mala’s async programming talk.
So great to be at the community again, get inspirations and feed back to my next project. For the hackathon I’ll continue working on PSGI/Plack with tokuhirom and Yappo. It’s actually being close to “done for now” phase, the rest is to figure out the minor details and just implement some obvious web server backends like Apache or FCGI.
