AVSForum.com: informative but makes me paranoid

February 24, 2007

I went to BestBuy again to see Samsung LCD/Plasma/DLPs in action and was almost sold to the DLP HLS5687W. It’s an ugly DLP rear projection but not thick as the other makers, and the picture quality is awesome, as long as you can sit almost straight in front of the screen, which is possible in my room.

The only concerns for me were the SD picture quality (since I’ll still see lots of SD and DVD quality sources) and PC-input (DVI, HDMI or VGA). AVSForum.com has an awesome thread, wich 536 pages of comment. This is very informative but makes me paranoid at the same time. Apparently PC input with DVI-HDMI cable is “not supported” by Samsung but some guys are saying it works great, then the other guys suggesting “Why not VGA?” and then other people explains the technical difference between VGA and DVI/HDMI (VGA is analog, hence it does Digital -> Analog -> Digital conversion), etc.

So fun.
