Turning 30

I personally can’t believe this but now I’m 30, based on Japan time. I’d take the full advantage of timezone to start my birthday Japan time and end it Pacific (40 hours!). Party is planned on Wednesday night in San Francisco. Details to follow.

JBL reference in-ear headphone = good

Amazon.com: JBL - In Ear Headphone (White): Musical Instrumentshttp://www.amazon…JBL Reference In-ear headphone.I’ve been using Audio-Technica’s neckstrap integrated headphone for iPod nano, but it suddenly broke a few weeks ago (no sound from the left earpad) so I was looking for the replacement.

Random @ Vienna

SFO airport shuttle driver probably ignored me and gone since I wasn’t outside 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Sigh, but I called the Luxor cab instead and it went okay.- upgraded SFO -> IAD flight to Economy plus. The flight was okay since I fell asleep when the flight was taxing for the departure, and I woke up when it was taxing for the arrival.- IAD to VIE flight was okay too. It was an economy class in the back of the plane, but I could use 3 seats for a flat sleep. Meals were good too.- The immigration was the smoothest ever. No forms, no questions. Just stamp over the passport without a glance at my face.- There’s a free wi-fi at the hotel but it doesn’t work quite well at upper floors. And no connection other than port 80 anyway.- Had a good Italian food at the restaurant near the hotel. Spaghetti and 1 litter Heineken in 10 EUR. Not so bad.- Went back to the hotel and had a nap for 3 hours. Woke up at 6pm but didn’t have the energy to get around, so slept again for 7 hours. Agh.- Woke up 1am. Started reading a book for 2 hours and then slept again.- Woke up 6:30am. Had too much sleep but no need for jetlags. Perfect!- Wandered around the town to find a good cafe with Wi-fi. The suggested cafe ‘AERA’ was close and seems to be closed till 30th. - Writing this from a cafe called Billard Cafe.- Now to work on the slides …

PSP 2000 -- September 10th

Amazon.com: Sony PSP 2000 Console - Piano Black: Video Gameshttp://www.amazon…The PSP (PlayStation Portable) system is totally portable so you can play anywhere. Wireless connectivity makes for slick, no-hassles multiplayer gaming. Can’t wait the new PSP (PSP 2000 … weird name) out on September 10th. It’s almost 2/3 weight of the current model and has video output for the component cable.

Slow shipping

Amazon third parties should clearly display where it ships from. Shipping from NYC takes a week while from Nevada arrives the next day. Sigh.

Japanese overreaction on things

Confectioner Ishiya to recall all products : National : DAILY YOMIURI ONLINE (The Daily Yomiuri)http://www.yomiur…Major confectionary firm Ishiya Trading Co. announced Thursday it would recall all its products from stores over scandals revealed Tuesday regarding false sell-by dates found on its popular chocolate product Shiroi Koibito and the discovery of bacter…Another good example of overreaction by Japanese people. It has turned out that Ishiya Trading Co. has been “extending” their chocolate expiration from 4 month, which is defined by “their internal company regulation”  to 6 months occasionally.

high-def audio mess

My Samsung 56inch DLP TV has a good built-in, invisible speaker, but it doesn’t do very good surround and when I put a loud sound (high-volume), it resonates the weird noise, which is a bit uncomfortable.

The other Kai

IMG_2588I’m staying at Jay Shirley’s house in Portland while I’m at OSCON. Here’s the picture of their 10 month old so cute son “Kai”. His name is spelled as 魁 and is different from Tanimoto’s son (I guess). You might have noticed that the baby looks like Japanese and yes, Jay’s wife Taeko is Japanese and is from Kyoto.

Confession

I’ve never seen nor read any of Harry Potter books and movies. Seriously.
